The Azadi Tower, a historic landmark in Tehran, Iran, was originally built to commemorate the 2,500th anniversary of the Persian Empire. In 1979, following the Iranian Revolution, it was dubbed "Azadi," meaning "Freedom." Protests were held at this site following the controversial 2009 Iranian presidential election.
